Stomped Mouse
Soldered brass, wire, epoxy clay, oils, shellac.
2.5 x 15 x 8 cm
2024
Blunt move (content) strategy.
The tail or spiritlike silhouette of the piece plays pathos against the cruel immediacy of the title. This line leads into a pair of tiny black orbs, which point to the essential aspect of a freshly stomped mouse: the popped out eyeballs from the pressure of the stomp. The eyes hover outside a Y-shaped contour of a skull. This configuration of the “face”, eyes in relation to snout, shifts with the positioning of the viewer in an unsettling yet hypnotic slide. The piece emerges from a shadow mount cube, rasp marks inferring fur on a discrete geometric object. The culled mouse is deconstructed.
