Dom Watson’s pewter noses (2014–ongoing) trace a pilgrimage to the Madonna del Ghisallo above Lake Como - sanctuary to cyclists and, by local decree, their patroness. Cast initially from the profile of Fausto Coppi - Il Campionissimo, the “champion of champions” - the project has since broadened into a rogue’s gallery of cultural icons, from royalty (Elizabeth I) to music legends (David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards) and comedy and literary greats (Ronnie Barker, Virginia Woolf).

Each nose is a pocket reliquary of borrowed aura, turning the urge to get close to greatness into a sculptural act of touching / stealing / obtaining what feels otherwise unpossessable.

For ‘The Indexx’ - our small-works platform - seven are available as a special limited project whilst Dom’s noses are on view at Dover Street Market.

As a special project, 100% of proceeds go directly to the artist.

Louise Oates is a visual artist working in installation, sculpture and photography. Her research led practice works towards entwining industries, bodies, and planetary processes, whereby metabolisms coalesce into material narratives.
Oates’ work unfolds through systems and assemblages that allow matter to perform or reveal its own innate tendencies - an exercise in relinquishing control. Her practice navigates the tension between movement and stillness, chaos and stasis, by which things are changed and sustained through time; incorporating live growth, peristaltic pumps, and moving images alongside processes that attempt to fix or preserve through firing, curing, and photography.

By probing at what can be controlled and what remains unsettlingly beyond our grasp - both physically and epistemologically - the work aims to engage with the complex interplay of agencies, spanning the human, animal, and mineral realms at a time when accelerated environmental change and uncertainty challenge our preconceptions about stability and what we can predict.
